What are plantar warts?

Plantar warts are warts that grow on the sole of the feet and are caused by a skin infection by human papillomavirus (HPV, which is the most common infection of the skin). There are hundreds types of HPV and certain types only infect certain areas. These warts commonly infect children and it’s estimated that 1 of 10 adults have plantar warts in their lifetime. Most common treatment method for the warts is salicylic acid compounds that can be bought over the counter. If the symptoms persist, a trip to the dermatologist may be necessary.
