Howard B. Baum, MD, FACP, specializes in a wide range of gastrointestinal problems, including liver diseases, digestive diseases, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), irritable bowel syndrome, and chronic hepatitis C. His expertise includes gastrointestinal endoscopy. Dr. Baum is a founding member of New Jersey Physicians, with whom he has practiced since 1982. In addition to his position at Summit Health, he is a partner at Premier Endoscopy in Clifton, New Jersey.



Dr. Baum is Past President of the Daughters of Miriam Center Gallen Institute Board of Trustees. He is Past President of the Passaic County Medical Society. To his credit, Dr. Baum partnered with the Rockefeller Foundation in helping establish a regional center for diagnosing and treating infectious diseases in Brazil.



Dr. Baum's research is primarily devoted to esophagitis and diverticulitis. He is the coauthor of articles that are published in the prestigious, peer-reviewed scientific journals Clinical Research and Journal of Lipid Research. Dr. Baum has delivered local and regional invited presentations about gastroesophageal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic hepatitis C, and stress-related illnesses. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, New Jersey Gastroenterology Society, and Medical Society of New Jersey.

Dr. Baum is a recipient of the Cornell University Medical College Arthur Palmer Prize in Otorhinolaryngology, United Passaic Organization Distinguished Health Professional Award, and Boy Scouts of America Northern New Jersey Council Distinguished Health Professional Service Award. He is featured in Castle Connolly "Top Doctors in the New York Metropolitan Area" listings. Dr. Baum's Castle Connolly listings are reprinted in US News and World Report.



A native of Passaic, New Jersey, Dr. Baum has a legacy of participation in community service. He has been a mentor for high school students from Passaic and Paterson. He also has chaperoned cultural exchange programs for underserved residents of Tobago, which involved students from Wayne Township and the Montgomery School. He has helped organize the Team Tobago Soccer Exchange, which enabled elite soccer players from Tobago to compete with top northern New Jersey soccer teams.
